Sahasrabhuja Lokeshvara is the essence of compassion, a form of Avalokitesvara who is portrayed in 108 varying forms. Known generally as Avalokitesvara and Lokeshvara in Tibet or Quan Yin - he is a Bodhisattva who has forsaken ascent into Nirvana so as to assist all beings in times of need, a protector deity associated with love and health.

With 11 heads and 22 eyes the 'All Sided One' is looking in all directions to see all suffering and to protect all creatures. He has 1000 arms to offer unlimited assistance with each hand having an eye to reveal all suffering. Holding a rosary in one hand and a willow branch in another which represents the need to be flexible, to bend and not snap under emotional stress. The central hands clutch closely the Unbreakable Jewel, representing knowledge. The three tiers of heads represent the three worlds of desire, the living and the spirits. Top-most head is Amitabha, the spiritual father of Avalokiteshvara, the 'Buddha of Infinite Light' offering his protection, and the head below is the terrifying blue head of Vajrapani, the wrathful Bodhisattva of Compassion.

Each of the deities is shown resting upon a flowering lotus which is a symbol of The Buddha and the purity of body, speech and mind to achieve enlightenment. Auspicious and mystical symbols are depicted by the 'tri-ratna', three burning jewels and the sun and moon above.
