Hand-painted Thangka of Kaal Bhairav & Buddha in Abhaya Mudra. Also know as Vajrabhairava, he is the "destroyer of death" deity of Vajrayana Buddhism. He is conceptualized as "conqueror of the lord of death".

Vajrayāna along with Mantrayāna, Guhyamantrayāna, Tantrayāna, Tantric Buddhism and Esoteric Buddhism are names referring to Buddhist traditions associated with Tantra and "Secret Mantra", which developed in medieval India and spread to Tibet, East Asia, Mongolia and other Himalayan states.

Buddha's Abhaya Mudra: The abhaya gesture shows the Buddha with its right hand raised, the palm facing outwards and the fingers upwards, while the left arm is next to the body. The Buddha can be depicted either in a standing or seated position. The mudra is the gesture of fearlessness. It shows the stage of the Buddha’s life immediately after achieving enlightenment.
